Freaking Awesome Ride Day

November 29, 2009

I would first like to thank all of the members that attended Sunday's great ride, we had approx 12 to 15 members show up for what ended up being one hell of a ride day. Of course as with all of our rides we met up at the normal spot & right away we knew it was going to be a great ride, we had lots of members show & with temps already approaching 70 degrees at 10:00Am in the morning, we knew this was going to be good. At about 10 to 10 we started talking about what route we were going to do. I think everyone was itching for a longer ride day I know I was and as I said with the temps being so warm we wanted to make it a good one. After much discussion we opted to go to & I know I'm going to screw up the spelling of this place but we went to a place called Macolume Hill near the town of Jackson. Now we had our ending location all we needed to do was come up with Road Captains & a sweeper oh yes a route as well. We decided with this larger group to have 2 Road Captains & 2 sweepers so a big thank you to Bob & Clint who handled the front of the pack & a big thank you to Jennifer & Brent who took care of the backside. Before I go on I just want to say that this run had to be one of the best runs that I have done in years a great destination & even better company made this run fantastic. The route was a basic one we would head over taking Hwy 101 to Hwy 116 to Hwy 80, and then we took a break in Cordelia for about 10 minutes or so.

After our break it was time to get the show on the road we headed out Hwy 12 to the town of Rio Vista & then well that’s where I will end the turn by turn account of our ride to our destination as I was focused on helping keep the pack of bikes together also I have really no clue as to the exact route although I can tell the ride through the gold country was out of this world. The temps were very nice for this time of year & it is really cool riding through some of those old towns. We got to our final destination at around 1:30PM or so got parked right in front and were able to get seated right away. I have to hand it to our waitress who handled the large group all by her self & we got our food served to us all at about the same time, she did a great job, the only bad thing was we got ripped on the steak fries & had to settle for regular. That’s OK we will be going back for those steak fries at some time you can count on it. The place we ate in just to give you an idea well picture yourself back in to the 1800's and there you have it. Once we all felt a little better with some grub in our tummies it was time to get these guys back on the road. We got back to the bikes and suited up with some warmer clothing cuz the temps were on the way down but it was still nice enough that we enjoyed the ride back through some simply beautiful scenery. They say that getting their is half the fun and they would be right but you wouldn't think that the ride home would be as exciting as the ride their but it was and you know as cool as it was getting on the ride back it still was an awesome feeling driving through the countryside watching the Sun start to head down, absolutely gorgeous and I don't no about the rest of the group but I was quite toasty, must be a Gold Wing thing.

We had originally planned to head back via Lake Berryessa but we had taken our time heading to our ending location it would appear that lots of members didn't want the ride to end and wanted to take our time & really enjoy the ride I know I did. We opted for a similar route back staying mostly on the freeways, we did make a couple of butt break stops on the return to home, and after an almost 300 mile ride day & one last break which was much desired it was time to put the last few miles under our belt and call it a day. We got back to Santa Rosa Area all safe and still warm, what a great ride, and again thanks to our Road Captains Bob & Clint who got us there & back & of course my co-partner who I assisted with sweeper duties Jennifer, and of course everyone who attended the ride what a great bunch of people to ride with. Thank you.
