Michael's H.D. Summer Run Recap

16 August 2009

First off let me start by telling you how proud I am & was of the Members of the RRMC at this years Michael's run. The call went out to members to come & show support not only for your club but also for the Meals On Wheels program the real winners in this year’s summer run & Ride. We had a huge turn out for this years event & it started for us any way's at Coco's where when I arrived there were already bikes there ready & waiting. I was waiting too it seemed that I had not called the hotline of which I do the updates on & got there a half earlier than I needed to. No big deal I would rather be early than late anytime, but more surprisingly there were others there as well. It was nice to be a little early so that I could watch everyone else roll on in. We the club was informed that at this year’s event that we would have VIP parking for years of supporting their event & always with big numbers. After much anticipation it was time to get this group of bikers rolling, we headed out on Hwy 12 to 101 North & on into Cotati & Michael's, we picked up the southern end of the co. members at the Star Cafe & then proceeded in one large group into Michael’s as we were entering the drive way I could hear the spokes person for the Redwood Empire Chapter Of H.O.G saying & here comes the Redwood Riders M.C. let's give them a big round of applause, now that was a first. We got parked in our very special pre-assigned spots & then took some gear off & went right to the morning goodies.

We got our bellies very happy then it was time to head over & register for the day's event. Once we got the registration out of the way we then headed to the Club participation table to sign up & support our club with hopes of taking that trophy away once more. After about 20 minutes or so of visiting with friends some of which we hadn't seen since last year, it was time to head out & hit the road. But first I walked over to the club participation award table to see how we did we had approx. 50 Member sign up, now that's not bad at all & it seemed that when we left Michael's & started the route that we very well might of had 50 riders behind me but there were a few I didn't recognize. Unlike last year we opted to cut their route a little short so that we could make it back to Michael's earlier because some members want to enter their bike in the ride in bike show, & last year when we did their route which happen to be the same as last year we had gotten back to late to enter the show well we didn't want to repeat that this year so we opted to cut off the last stop & then head to the Petaluma Fairgrounds the ending location. The one & only stop that we did was out at Duncan’s Mill's but it's how you get there that counts now don’t it?

We left Michael's and went out Hwy 116 to Stony Point Rd then to occidental Rd & followed that until we reached the town of Occidental we then continued on Hwy 116 until we reached Duncan’s Mill’s, once again although not planned we got premium parking which was great because we were able to all stay together. We got parked & walked over to do our poker card draw & mingle for a bit before continuing on. We got to check out some pretty cool rides while at Duncan’s Mill's and you can bet that some of those rides would be in the bike show. After everyone had got their poker hand squared away it was time to head to Petaluma. For the return trip we opted to head out Moscow Rd to Monte Rio then to Occidental again then to Hwy 12 then on to Hwy 101 South until we got to Petaluma, then a couple of quick turns and we were there. Now some when we arrived such as my self went right to the bike show parking & got parked, didn’t really care if the bike won an award but I do love that special parking right in the middle of things, and if your concerned about your ride at all this is place to park it.

Once everyone got parked & situated we headed over for the grub & this years was really good, now it could be that I didn't eat much for breakfast & I was really hungry, or the food could have been better than last years for those of you who went you know. After lunch was over it was one of my favorite things to do is to walk off the meal & what a better way to walk off a meal then to check out all those works of art, artistry in iron that is, there were some really nice rides at this years event, in fact I want to say that there seemed to be more customs this year I guess it could be my imagination. Some of us went over & checked out the slow race competition, now is it me or does the same guy on the same bike seem to be there and kicking some serious ass again? Well regardless it was a lot of fun, also it ended up that some of us who would normally buy raffle tickets & 50/50 and other goodies opted not to this year mostly due to the fact that our main event was coming up one week later & with the economy the way it is a lot of folks can't afford to be spending big money a couple of weeks in a row me being one of them so some of us opted to save our bucks for our own event & since we were doing that in stead of hanging out for the end of the event & with temps in the low 90's approx. 8 of us opted to head out to the Petaluma Cheese Factory out D. ST then continue on to the coast.

We said our farewells to the rest of the club & wished good luck in whatever contest they had entered and a bunch of us headed coastal. Were we in for a treat when we reached the coast the temps were in the low 70's it was perfect I only need my t-shirt & vest for the whole ride. We continued up the coast until we reached Bodega, which is where we turned inland & headed back to home. Before I end this recap I want to give those of you who were curious we did not take this years Club participation Award back home, we were beaten by Mt Diablo Chapter Of H.O.G I'm not sure by how much but from what I know it was not a big amount, perhaps next year we will surprise all the H.O.G chapters, congrats to the Mt Diablo Chapter, & a big thank you to our own members who showed up in force to show support for a local Independent Motorcycle Club, The Redwood Riders M.C.
