Mendocino/Fort Bragg Ride Day Recap
09 August 2009
I would like to thank all of the members that showed for what ended up being one of the nicest ride days on our coast that we have had in some time. We met up at the scheduled time & talked about which way we wanted to go out to the coast & up. After some discussion it was decided that we would head up to Cloverdale then out Hwy 128 through Boonville & out to Hwy 1. Once we had all the bikes staged for departure it was time to roll. We took mostly back roads to Cloverdale then drove through the middle of town & made our left on to Hwy 128 & enjoyed a beautiful scenic ride through the countryside, once arriving in Boonville we took a 10 to 15 minute break at the gas station. Once we had everything squared away it was time to get rolling again. We continued out Hwy 128 until we reached Hwy 1, now when we were in Boonville I would say that the temps were already in the upper seventy's & we were OK with that because we knew we were riding to mother natures air condition coast line. Once we got to the coast it was a bit warmer that we had expected but still much cooler than inland, my temp gage said that it was 72 degrees at the coast this was perfect, we didn't even have to but on sweat jackets. We had a great ride up the coast & the entire pack of bikes was able to stay together the whole way.
We got in to the town of Mendocino without incident & found some parking spots that were near a possible restaurant, I say possible because as we looked closer & saw the crowd we figured it would be an hour before we even got in let alone eat so the group opted to continue another 8 miles up the coast to Fort Bragg & eat at the Trade-winds Grill. From Mendocino to Fort Bragg only took about 20 minutes or so & when we got to TW'S the parking lot was just about wide open so most of us were able to get parked all together which is always nice. Well we got parked & went inside, now this was kinda funny & you really had to be there, but when I went in as I was the first through the door I informed the Hostess that there would be 15 she looked at me & said sure there is. I said I'm not kidding we would like to sit as close to one another as possible but if you have to split us up that's fine she looked at me again & said are you freaking kidding & I said no, were bikers & were hungry, she said” Right away sir" not really but she finally did believe when a bunch of members stepped up behind me. The Hostess was nice enough to give us the whole back section of the place, now that's service.
The food was great everyone was commenting on how much they were enjoying there meal, I'm thinking that perhaps they were just hungry, no the food is really that good, we will be scheduling another Fort Bragg Run soon so watch for it perhaps next month. Once we had finished lunch & paid it was time to get back on our iron steeds & head South, after talking about which direction we all wanted to take to get us back home it was decided since is was so nice on the coast in fact it had warmed up just a couple of degrees more that we would take the coastal route all the way back home. We of course had an awesome ride down the coast & when we arrived in the town of Jenner we took another 10 minute break & then continued on until we reach Duncan’s Mills, one of our riders really had to use the potty so we stopped by the little coffee place & got off the bikes & took what we thought was going to be only a 5 minute break, but then we heard this familiar sound we were hearing the Rock N Roll group ZZ Top, we looked over to our left and outside of a little cafe there was well live music & guy's with long beards & they were in fact playing songs from ZZ Top so we had to go & see for our selves, cuz it sounded like ZZ so much that we looked at each other & went no way it couldn't be. Once we got close then we were able to see them real good. Although they sounded like ZZ Top very much so in fact but when we got close I saw that there beards looked a little strange and as I got even closer I could see that their beards were being held on are you ready for this Duct tape how funny is that.
I was unable to talk anyone in to going up & dancing you big chickens, but that's OK because we had to beet feet anyway's. We listen to another song then got back on the bikes & headed for home, we had a great ride & a lot of fun, I would like to thank all of you who were able to make the run & our Road Captains who did a great job as always. Thank you.
